Our Story
Kaz and Shaun first crossed paths while guiding on the world-renowned Milford Track in the heart of Fiordland National Park. Their shared experiences and deep connection to the natural world inspired them to create Silver Beech Outdoor Guides, where they seek to share their passion and expertise with adventurers from around the globe. Together, Kaz and Shaun strive to connect our guests with the breathtaking beauty of the natural world, fostering a spirit of adventure and appreciation for the great outdoors.

Kaz Kawasaki

Originally from Japan, Kaz fell in love with the beauty and majesty of New Zealand's natural landscapes. With over 20 years of extensive experience in guiding and outdoor instruction, Kaz has worked across Japan, Canada, and New Zealand. His expertise spans a variety of outdoor activities, and he brings a wealth of knowledge and a deep passion for nature to every adventure.
Shaun Shallish
Operation Manager / Director
​Educated in physical education, Shaun has spent over a decade honing his expertise in outdoor management. His passion and unparalleled knowledge of New Zealand’s landscapes make him an invaluable guide. Shaun’s commitment to providing unforgettable experiences is evident in the bespoke journeys he designs, ensuring each adventure is unique and memorable.
